FAQs on how to use your bank account

  1.  How can I check my account balance?

    You can check your account balance at any time free of charge with Internet, Mobile and Phone Banking, or through BankSA ATMs. You can also check your account balance on your regular account statement. For real-time updates, you can also set up SMS or Email Alerts1 to give you regular balance updates.

  2.  Where is my nearest BankSA ATM?

    As a BankSA customer, you've got access to the one of the largest networks of ATMs in NSW and South Australia. Remember that you can now use any Westpac, St.George and BankSA ATMs in Australia. Find your nearest BankSA ATM

    You can also have your nearest ATM location sent to you via SMS. To use the service, simply SMS your current suburb and state to 199 44 ATM (286), and you will immediately receive a return SMS with details of your closest BankSA ATM. This service costs $0.40 per request, billed by your mobile phone carrier.

  3.  Is Internet Banking safe?

  4.  How can I pay my bills using my BankSA account?

    You can use BPAY® with Internet and Phone Banking to pay your bills. If you need help learning how to use BPAY®, you can try our Internet Banking demonstration or ask us at any BankSA branch.

  5.  Can I access my BankSA account when I'm overseas?

    You can still access your account when overseas. It's important to remember that there are charges for overseas ATM use. Our Bank Account Fees and Charges booklet has all the details.

  6.  How much money can I withdraw via ATMs and EFTPOS each day?

    You can usually withdraw up to $1,000 each day via ATMs and EFTPOS or up to $8,000 per day on purchases, provided your account contains sufficient cleared funds, and you have not reached any other limits for transactions that apply to your account.

  7.  What happens if I overdraw my account?

    If you overdraw your account and don't have an approved BankSA overdraft facility in place, fees may apply. To see how much you'll pay if your account is overdrawn, our Bank Account Fees and Charges booklet has all the details.

  8.  Can I set up periodical payments and direct debits?

    You can set up periodical payments and direct debits from your account. The best way to do this is to register for Internet and Phone Banking and then set up the regular payments. You can also call us on 13 13 76 and say "Existing Account" when prompted, or visit one of our branches.

  9.  What's the difference between a periodical payment and a direct debit?

    A periodical payment is a recurring payment that you set up to pay a commitment, such as your rent or a loan. It is easy to set up and you can change it as you wish.

    A direct debit is a payment established through a particular merchant, where you have authorised them to draw funds from your account. For example, you can arrange a direct debit for your phone bill each month.

    Avoid being charged a dishonour fee by having enough money in your account when the periodical payment or direct debit is due.

  10.  How do I close an account?

    To close a BankSA account that you no longer need, please visit your local branch. If you don't live near a BankSA branch, you can call us on 13 13 76.

  11.  How do I change my card PIN?”

    You can change your card PIN at any time. Using your existing PIN and card, you can use any BankSA ATM to change your PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN, simply visit one of our BankSA branches with your card and identification.
